I'm Bryan Dunk, a 25 year old from Chicago. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and spent most of my childhood playing in bands, playing video games, and in general just being a kid. I went to school at St. Mary's University studying music technology before transfering to Augustana College to study computer science.
These days I live in Logan Square in Chicago and busy myself scooting around on my Honda Metropolitan, spending time with my lovely girlfriend and her son, playing videogames when time permits, going to concerts, and a myriad of other city-life things.
After a bouncing around various programming and IT jobs, I discovered web development and fell in love with it. The languages, the creation of dynamic and interactive content, and the ease of creating something that everyone can use got me hooked. I am currently doing the whole freelance gig, developing web sites and web applications for individuals and companies all over the Chicagoland Area.
I do all my coding by hand (ie. I actually write the code) using HTML/CSS to create clean pages with content seperated from formatting. I use javascript and jQuery to add image galleries, polls, animated text, and all sorts of engaging and functional pieces. Most of my backend work is handled with php/mysql to process forms, store contacts, or send custom emails. Putting all these tools together, I can create cross browser compliant sites, fully custom todo lists, or a newsletter signup.
If you're in need of a web developer, please feel free to contact me for a full resume or with any questions you may have.
When I'm not doing web stuff, chances are I'm playing music. I'm a drummer of 11 years, and I've played in several bands and put out half a dozen albums. I also play the guitar and sing and have release two solo EPs. Every once in a while, I'll even record some random video game-esque composition.
Growing up, my mom had a rule that we had to be actively taking lessons on at least one instrument. This resulted in about 6 years of piano lessons, 8 years of trumpet lessons, neither of which I was particularly fond of. Like it or not though, having that much experience playing multiple instruments certainly set me up for a life long love of music, and I'm thankful for that.
If you want to hear samples of my music, head on over to the music page and poke around a bit.
Of course, my life is not limited to web development and music, I have plenty of other hobbies and interests, some of which will manifest on this site. For instance, in the projects section you can find a bunch of photos I've taken. There will also be some experimental web stuff in there, like a jQuery version of TicTacToe, and a todo list that you can install on your own server. Keep checking back for more fun stuff!
